Kamakshi Instant Appe Premix , Made By Natural Ingredients, No Artificial Flavour, Pack of 200 gm

A 200 g pack of instant appe premix from Kamakshi, a producer in Buldhana district, Maharashtra. Appe (also called paniyaram or guliyappa further south) are small round dumplings cooked in a special pan with a row of hemispherical cups, so they come out crisp outside and soft inside.

What the listing tells us, and what it doesn't

The listing names the product, the pack size and the district. It does not give an ingredient list or the method, so before you cook, check the pack for two things: how much water or curd the mix needs, and how long the batter should rest. Some appe mixes are rice-and-udid based, others use rava; the pack will say which this is.

What you need

• An appe patra (appe pan). A flat tawa will not work for this one.
• A little oil or ghee for each cup.
• Optional: chopped onion, green chilli, coriander or grated carrot folded into the batter, if the pack's method allows it.

Good to know

• 200 g is a small pack, enough to try the mix before buying more.
• Store the opened pack airtight, away from moisture, and use it within the date printed on the pack.
• If you are avoiding a particular ingredient, read the label on the delivered pack; it is the final word on what is inside.
