An akash kandil is the lantern that hangs outside the door or on the balcony through Diwali — decoration, not a lamp for puja. This one has a bamboo frame and is handmade by Ujjwala SHG in Amravati.

    • Lighting: use an LED bulb or small LED string inside — never a diya or open flame. Bamboo catches fire easily.
    • Outdoors: hang it under a roof or balcony overhang. Rain and damp are hard on bamboo.
    • After Diwali: dust it, make sure it is completely dry, and store it in a box somewhere dry — it will come out again next year.
    • Size: the listing doesn't give dimensions, so check the product photos.

Deciding between a kandil and a diya, or between bamboo and wool? Our Diwali buying guide to diyas and akash kandils covers all of it.
